True psychology is "the knowledge of the relationship of the soul with Truth." Esoteric Psychology is the highest and most potent level of that knowledge, which is "private" and "interior" and is entered into in levels, according to the internal, initiatic process of the practitioner.
The science of psychology is not limited to the recent constructions of modern psychiatrists and psychologists. It is a science that has been studied and practiced since the dawn of humanity. The study and development of psyche ("soul") is the essential root of every mystical and religious tradition in the world. Esoteric psychology, as studied in the light of Universal Gnosticism, can be found in all of the scriptures of the ancient religions. These teachings are told in parables or stories, often with obscure symbols that are understood only to those who "know" (those who have been initiated into the hidden knowledge).
An in depth understanding of esoteric psychology reveals the enemy (Shaitan = Hebrew for “enemy”; origin of the Christian word “Satan”) of Truth lurks within one’s own concepts of self. This false sense of self is generated and sustained by a personal identification with desire.
The comprehension and annihilation of this false sense of self, this ego (Latin for “I”), is a necessary component of any authentic spiritual pursuit. This Mystical Death is symbolized in scores of religious and mythological stories around the world.
This death frees the consciousness from its prison, resulting in a new spiritual life. Complete Mystical Death is not possible without the practical application of Meditation and Alchemy.
